In buses and metrobuses the electrical system runs from one end of the vehicle to the other. Lighting, door and ramp systems, passenger information screens, camera lines and the driver's panel usually share the same network. The longer the run, the more critical voltage drop, cross-section choice and wire coding become; a single mis-coded wire costs hours on the assembly line.
What stresses the harness in these vehicles
City duty exposes the harness to constant vibration and endless door cycles. Roof and side-wall ducts are narrow and bend radii are small, so the harness has to stay flexible and resist chafing inside the duct. Near the engine bay temperature is the deciding factor; under the floor it is moisture and road salt.
- Cross-section chosen for voltage drop over long runs
- Repeated movement at doors, ramps and luggage flaps
- Heat and tight bend radii in roof ducts
- Moisture, dust and chemical contact under the floor
How we build the harness
Work starts from a drawing or a sample of the existing harness. Run lengths, branch points, connector types and wire colour codes are extracted, and the dimension and coding table is confirmed with you. Cutting and wire coding follow that table, so the fitter never has to work out which wire goes where on the vehicle.
Crimping is done with the tooling that matches the terminal and the cross-section in use. Branch points are grouped with fleece tape, PVC tape or spiral wrap; conduit and extra protection are added where the harness rubs inside a duct. On long harnesses intermediate points are labelled so the routing cannot be mistaken during installation.
The check before delivery
Every harness is tested electrically for continuity and short circuits before dispatch, and connector seating and terminal retention are verified by eye. A tested harness removes the time lost to "it doesn't work" on the line.
If you have no drawing, send the existing harness as a sample: we take the dimensions off it and build the coding table together. Tell us what you need and we will come back with suitable cross-sections, connectors and protection options, plus price and lead time.
